I am beginning a new project which is drawing connections from all the past work I've done. I am interested in using the nude figure as a form which relates to a psychological landscape. I've been thinking about landscapes by J.M Turner and other romantic painters because of the immense landscapes and the idea of sublime, or feeling overwhelmed. I want to create a relationship with scale and the form in order to decrease the weight of sexual references as well as to depict the form as a reference to a psychological or philosophical conflict. I am also thinking about the physical attributes of photography and how they can reflect concepts about which I am working through. This is where the I started thinking about two images combined. The idea of dual realities. Of the physical world and the internal world. What is reality? In the first image of Khrystyna on my roof, I shot a wider angle to capture the scene, then moved in closer to her and shot the second image. As I print this image larger the physical qualities of the print start to degrade more noticeably with the base image--the wider angle shot. This is contrasted by the clearer or sharper quality of the second image. The second image of myself is a bit different because of the relationship between the base image and the secondary image of myself. I was more interested in a landscape which was less about physical references to a place--more about an idea or psychological landscape. Both of these images are tests and starting points so I need to explore them conceptually and technically. I really want to be more specific about body language and about trying to erase the identity of the nude forms. SO BASICALLY I HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO :)! Enough of my babbling..here are some examples of what I am talking about and the direction I am moving into! Seeing the physical print is really important to grasp they physicality of what I am referring to but here you go!
